Compliance Ireland is not a law firm. Peter Oakes, the founder, Principal and Director of Compliance Ireland, qualified in, and remains admitted in, Ireland, England & Wales and Australia (NSW). Before starting Compliance Ireland in 2004, Peter worked as Director of Legal & Compliance for the Irish & EU subsidiaries of a US funds company. While practising as a solicitor in the UK, Peter worked as an enforcement lawyer/investigator with the UK Financial Services Authority; Company Solicitor at Barings; and Solicitor and Compliance Officer at a bespoke institutional investment manager. Peter also practise law in Australia while an employee of the Australian Securities and Investments Commission.
This wealth of experience helps Peter assess complex legal matters and to identify a selection of suitable Irish and international lawyers with extensive experience in financial services law, employment law and negligence for the client to decide upon. Compliance Ireland Regulatory Services Limited does not provide solicitor services - we put our clients in contact with legal professionals and we may then assist the lawyers and clients by providing Mediation, Litigation Support and Expert Witness services (as and when required).
Generally speaking, we work with solicitors who perform the legal services and we implement the advice in a practical and operationally efficient manner at the client's business. Examples of this type of service includes work on MiFID and banking authorisations and client asset requirements.
Peter's extensive legal experience, together with his colleague's (Kevin O'Doherty, Principal and Director) business experience means that they know many capable lawyers at large, medium and smaller sized law firms who are happy to advise clients on all types of matters.
