Peter Oakes is Managing Director of Compliance Ireland. He is also a non-executive director of two regulated financial services company - Oasis Global Management Company (Ireland) Limited (UCITS III funds management company) and Atradius Reinsurance Limited(reinsurance undertaking) both located in Ireland.

Peter is a Solicitor/Legal Practitioner* admitted in the jurisdictions of:

 

(a) the Republic of Ireland;

(b) England & Wales; and

(c) New South Wales (Australia)

* non-practising

 

Peter is appointed as a member of the Panel of Assessors by the Irish Financial Services Regulatory Authority pursuant to the Market Abuse, Transparency and Prospectus Regulations.

 

In addition to his legal qualifications, Peter:

• holds the post graduate Diploma in Corporate Governance from the Michael Smurfit School of Business, University College Dublin;
• holds a postgraduate Diploma in Company Direction from the Institute of Directors. Peter was a member of the inaugural class in the Chartered Director programme conducted by the Institute of Directors in Ireland. This qualification is required before a person may be designated a Chartered Director.

Before establishing Compliance Ireland & City Compliance in January 2004, Peter's experience included:

• Director of Legal and Compliance for one Ireland's leading fund administration groups. Responsible for legal transactions, advising on fund structures, international transactions, fund registrations and general IFSRA and FSA compliance.
• Solicitor for Barings Asset Management. Advising on investment transactions and FSA regulatory matters
• Head of Legal and Compliance for the UK investment management arm of a Fortune 500 group company. Covered SEC, FSA, IFSRA, Ontario & Japanese regulations
• FSA Enforcement lawyer & investigator. Covered the investigations of, and enforcement actions against, a number of high profile investment houses and banks
• Registrar & Mediator to the Australian auditors and liquidators disciplinary tribunal. Responsible for assessing the merits of enforcement actions taken by the Australian Securities Commission (now incorporated into the ASIC), legal department.
