Breda Kiernan BSc. MPhil. PhD.

Breda KiernanDr. Breda KiernanDr. Breda Kiernan is an experienced researcher and project manager. She holds a PhD. in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Bradford and has over 4 years postdoctoral experience in the National Centre for Sensor Research (DCU) and CLARITY: Centre for Sensor Web Technologies (DCU).

Breda has been active in Education and Outreach throughout her career and is an accomplished teacher, trainer and mentor as well as an experienced co-ordinator of workshops, seminars and conferences/events.  Her experience and training serves her well in her role as Training Manager for Compliance Ireland Training.

Recently, her interests have broadened and she has completed a Diploma in Business Studies with Accounting at the Institute of Public Administration.

Her research career has involved projects for industry on process improvement, product design and development and novel energy storage technologies. Her more recent work has been involved with environmental protection.  This work involved autonomous device development for gaseous applications for industry and state bodies. In 2010 she was principal author of the Environmental Protection Agency's STRIVE Report "Monitoring of gas emissions at waste sites using autonomous gas sensors". This work was awarded additional funding by the Environmental Protection Agency in 2010. She has presented her work at international conferences and published in a number of peer-reviewed publications.
